Description:
The swimming lessons offered by Mountain Home Parks and Recreation are certified American Red Cross swim lessons. The main purpose of these lessons is to teach children and young adults safety in, on and around the water. Children will also learn proper swim technique; in order to pass each level the student must perform to the standard objective set by the Red Cross. If you have any questions during the course please ask your child's instructor. Primary Level 2 - In this level students build upon their comfort level in the water. In order to be in this level students have to be able to move about the water on their own, submerge their heads, and float with assistance on their front and back. During this class, the student will learn to float without assistance, learn arm and leg actions to begin their forward movement without assistance on both the front and the back, and begin learning how to swim on their side. Students will also be introduced to water safety in deep water. The requirements to pass this course are being able to float without support on front and back, and being able to use a combination of arm and leg actions for 15 feet on the front and back. Students within the course must perform proficiently to the standard set by the American Red Cross.

The prerequisites of this course is coordinated forward movement on the front and back with arms and legs-front stroke, backstroke, breaststroke-to a distance of 15 feet. The strokes students will build upon from previous levels are: front stroke, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and the beginnings of the butterfly (dolphin kick). Students will also begin to learn dives and treading water. To pass this course students must be strong enough and competent enough in the strokes to swim at least 15 yards front stroke and backstroke. Students within the course must perform proficiently to the standard set by the American Red Cross.

Level 6 Diving- While this class primarily focuses on diving, the students must also be able to swim 100 yards of front and backstroke, and 50 yards of other strokes, all of which turns must be used. With diving students will learn how to do kneeling, compact, and standing from the poolside, and learn how to do standing, tuck, and pike dives from the board. To pass this course students have to demonstrate their ability to swim and their ability to do a two-part entry, feet first and head first from the board. Students within the course must perform proficiently to the standard set by the American Red Cross.
